Live Algae Used In World’s First Bio-Adaptive Facade.

In 2013 the International Building Exhibition (IBA) is being held in Hamburg and there will be a lot of attention for Green buildings. When it comes to sustainable buildings , nothing gets greener than this building. The world’s first bio-adaptive façade will be installed in the BIQ house wich is being build on the site of the IBA.

The façade concept is designed so that algae contained in so-called bio-reactor panels grow faster in bright sunlight to provide more internal shading. Using the latest technological finds, the bio-reactors not only produce biomass that can subsequently be harvested, but they also capture solar thermal heat, hence providing two energy sources that can be used to power the building./source
