While on Haptic Architects‘ website, I was impressed by this simple little gem of an idea. Situated on the former location of Aldgate in London, the challenge of this garden was to create a secluded green space while still allowing unhindered pedestrian movement through the site. Haptic’s solution was to create a “floating” garden elevated above the busy street traffic.
The timber base of the Floating Garden of Aldgate tapers down to allow ease of pedestrian movement, yet leaves enough room to incorporate a staircase, platform lift and coffee bar. It also frames views of the surrounding buildings and streets.
